MUSEUM

The
Aborigines Museum is situated near the Crocodile Park at Ayer
Keroh, Melaka. This museum was launched to the public on the 3rd
February of 1997. Its main specialization is on the Senoi, Jah
Huat and Mah Meri tribes’ daily appliances and materials.
There are more
than 5 galleries in this museum and among the themes exhibited are
the likes of the aborigines fishing method, their agricultural
tools, their interior house design and their weaponry. The main
attractions of this museum among others are the house utensils,
hunting equipments and the ‘Sewang’ ceremony. This is the perfect
museum to showcase the Aborigines beliefs and their way of life that
harbors thousands mysteries.
Initially, the
Aborigines Museum was situated within the Ayer Keroh Recreational
Jungle under the care of the Forestry Department. On December 1996,
the museum was relocated to the area where it is today under the
care of PERZIM (Melaka Museum Corporation) in order to reach out to
more visitors. This present museum’s architecture was adapted from
the common Aborigines house in Malaysia.
The Aborigines
Museum objectives:

To exhibit the
Aborigines heritage and its socio-cultural society with particular
attention on Melaka’s Aborigines.

To showcase
their way of life alongside the tools and appliances employed by
them in going through their daily life.

To upkeep and safeguard the cultural and
ancestral heritage of the Aborigines from becoming extinct.
