THE MUSEUM OF
BEAUTY

This museum
was officially opened in 1996 and is located at Level 2 of the
People’s Museum.
The permanent
exhibition in this museum encapsulates records and history of beauty
manifested by men from various cultures and beliefs. It ranges from
human history very early periods to the present era. The pictures
and other exhibits reveal the differing concepts of ‘beauty’ as
practiced by cultures all around the world. Some of the exhibits
reveal the pain and agony some people would have to endure to
achieve the concept of beauty as visualized by their community and
culture. Among the different concepts of beauty exhibited are skin
tattooing, stretching lips by the insertion of round discs, heads
molded into oval shapes and restricting the growth of feet.
