THE MELAKA
SULTANATE PALACE

The Melaka
Sultanate Palace (a replica of the 15th century
Melaka Sultanate Palace) is located at the foot of St. Paul’s
Hill. This replica was built based on annotations from the Malay
Annals. These historical records illustrate details of
architecture and construction of the Malay Palaces during the
reign of Sultan Mansur Syah from 1456 to 1477.
Among the
objectives of constructing this palace replica are:
a)
For the public to experience the palace’s actual space and
environment as the like of the Balairong Seri (the Main Hall where
the Sultan grants audience), Balai Beradu (the Royal Bedchamber) and
displaying physical characteristics of the Royal customs and rites
during the Melaka Sultanate period
b) To
showcase to the public the grandeur of Melaka’s Royal
Institution and in remembrance of the rich Malay culture and
civilization in addition to the reminiscing of Hang Tuah and Hang
Jebat great sword-fighting battle which provides meaningful
lessons and trigger polemics of all kind.
The palace
replica was built in 1984 and it became the Cultural Museum. The
Cultural Museum was officially officiated by the Prime Minister of
Malaysia on 17th July 1986 and now the name has changed to Melaka
Sultanate Palace. The whole building is made of hardwood whereas the
roof is made of 'belian' wood. The construction of this replica was
mainly based on the main Traditional Malay House characteristic that
is of using wooden pegs instead of nails.
Generally, this
museum with all of its distinct halls and spaces is an epitome of
the great Malay civilization.
